Why do I keep coming back to Strathberry?
I worked in Professional services recruitment for many years and along this corporate role I have been writing this blog and created social media content. As I always say I am a true OG of this fast paced online business. And naturally people I worked with were aware of my love for design and clothes as that is pretty much all I talked about. I spent lunch breaks creating content or dropping off to events and meetings nearby and then eating hectically a sandwich on the way back to the office. Looking back this was a shocking routine as I never stopped and sacrificed every single minute to my side kick.
Interestingly, my former boss’s wife also worked in fashion, specialising in leather sourcing. She was actually the first person who ever told me about Strathberry. This was just shortly after their launched the business.
She mentioned this Scottish-based brand that was making beautifully crafted, designer-quality handbags using exquisite leather, which she was sourcing for them from around the world. I remember being intrigued because, at the time, Strathberry wasn’t a brand I was seeing everywhere.
And perhaps that was part of the appeal.
There was something rather understated about Strathberry. The bags had beautiful shapes, gorgeous leather and that instantly recognisable metal bar closure, but they didn’t feel like they were trying too hard to announce themselves as a luxury handbag.
Fast forward several years and I now own several Strathberry bags — and I have just added another one to my collection.
So I thought it was about time I shared the story of how I discovered the brand, why I keep coming back to it and, most importantly, whether I think Strathberry bags are actually worth the investment.
I have covered the brand several times during my years with ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar as I couldn’t ignore the fact that they had seen incredible growth and several years later I connected with their team as an influencer and could not be happier. I am genuinely over the moon when people trying to create something beautiful become bigger and bigger.
Deciding on which bag you want to purchase?
My first ever bag from this brand was their iconic East/West and despite it is no longer my favourite I hope the brand will always keep these in their collection. It may not necessarily be my style anymore however I can see so many women wearing it and looking fabulous. It is one of those things that has timeless quality and design.
Strathberry has also become a favourite among the royals, with the Princess of Wales having been seen carrying several of the brand’s designs. For a relatively young British fashion label, that kind of royal recognition is certainly something special.
You can currently shop many new designs. I really adore their Crescents bags and that would be on my wish list however my recent favourites are definitely the Kite bags.
These designs really brought fresh and modern air to this brand and especially the suede makes it even more appealing. Not the easiest to look after but damn so pretty. They are large, they are practical and very cool. I have bought insert to keep my bag more secure organised as that may be the only advantage of the bag. When it comes to craftsmanship they really kept as always everything in a very high quality.
One of the key things I look for in a handbag is durability — the quality of the leather, how it is constructed and how well it is going to stand the test of time. And these are all areas where Strathberry scores highly for me.
That is ultimately what keeps bringing me back to the brand. It isn’t just about how beautiful the bags look; I want to know that I am buying something beautifully made that I can actually enjoy and use for years.
My latest addition is their Charlotte bag which I have tried on one of their press days and thought it is such a practical but small bag that will work as a day to night item. I love you have the long strap which you can pop in and make it look more chic as a clutch. I love it is wonderful for travel as the shape is more fluid rather than sturdy and I love my choice of chocolate suede that is going to be perfect for autumn winter.
I haven’t worn it out yet, but hopefully I’ll get the chance soon. I’m already thinking about all the outfits I can create around it and can’t wait to see how my latest Strathberry addition comes together with my autumn wardrobe.
And now for the fun part…
I’ve put together a little Strathberry Edit, featuring some of my favourite pieces to wear with the bags — from effortless everyday outfits to more polished looks for autumn and winter.
